A woodland for now and future generations

Hooks Wood is near School Lane, Guilden Sutton. It is ideally located for access on foot, either from Green Lane bridleway (SJ443686), or via the track beside the Old School. We want to be as green as possible and there is no parking. If you do have to drive to get there, please use the car parks in the centre of the village.

About Hooks Wood

A field known formerly as one of the Hooks Fields, has been purchased for the community with funding from the Mersey Forest Project, Cheshire West and Chester Council's Climate Emergency Fund and Guilden Sutton Parish Council.  The area has been planted with trees and has been named 'Hooks Wood'

The Wood has been the work of local volunteers over the past three years. It is now open, but is by no means finished. In the future we hope to create places to sit, opportunities for natural play, level path access and more.

Currently, the trees are protected with tree guards and mulch in the form of wood chippings. The tree guards are essential to prevent them being destroyed by rabbits and the mulch will keep grass and weeds at bay as well as maintaining moisture in  the soil.

The video below shows the whole three week planting process condensed into 3 minutes
